What Is a LOLER Sticker?

People say “LOLER sticker” for the date label on a forklift or other lifting machine. The regulations do not describe a sticker. They describe a thorough examination and a written report.

Titan does not carry out thorough examinations. A label shows the dates and wording you supply. It does not replace the written report.

What LOLER covers

LOLER is the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. HSE’s Approved Code of Practice, L113, says LOLER applies to lifting equipment and builds on PUWER, the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations. HSE’s overview points to planning and organising lifting operations, lifting people, and examination of lifting equipment.

A thorough examination is a systematic and detailed examination of the equipment and safety-critical parts, carried out by a competent person who then completes a written report. The report must include the Schedule 1 information, including the examination date, the next due date, and defects that are or could become a danger to people.

Where a sticker fits

A yard still wants the next date where a driver or a counter clerk can see it. That is what the printed label is for. It repeats dates and any number you supply. It does not inspect the mast, the chains, the forks or the brakes. It does not create the report, and it does not tell the enforcing authority about a defect.

Regulation 9 sets when examinations are due: before first use, with a limited exception where there is a recent declaration of conformity; after installation where safety depends on how it is installed; and in service at least every 6 months for people-lifting equipment and lifting accessories, or at least every 12 months for other lifting equipment, unless a competent person has drawn up an examination scheme. Exceptional circumstances that could jeopardise safety also trigger an examination.

Ordering the label

Send the wording, the date format and the quantity. Catalogue date labels that are in stock can go the same day. A custom size or your own wording is quoted, and it is not a same-day catalogue item. The range sits on the LOLER inspection stickers page.
