MEWP and access platform labelling

Access platforms lift people. That matters for how often a thorough examination is required, and it is separate from the brand sticker on the basket.

Titan does not carry out thorough examinations. A label shows the dates and wording you supply. It does not replace the written report.

People-lifting equipment

Regulation 9 says that lifting equipment for lifting persons, and lifting accessories, must be thoroughly examined at least every 6 months, unless an examination scheme drawn up by a competent person sets another interval. Other lifting equipment is at least every 12 months. HSE states the same intervals. Exceptional circumstances that could jeopardise safety also require a thorough examination. HSE’s examples include damage, long periods out of use, and major changes such as modification or repair of critical parts.

A thorough examination is still the competent person’s systematic examination and written report. A daily or weekly look by the operator is the sort of check HSE describes separately. It does not move the next thorough examination date.

Labels on the machine

Date labels show the next date you supply. Company marks and fleet numbers show who owns the machine. Do not cover the manufacturer’s plates, controls or safety notices with either of them. If the platform is hired out, the hirer and the user both need to know which record applies. Regulation 9 also says lifting equipment must not leave an undertaking, or be used when it comes from another, unless it is accompanied by physical evidence that the last required thorough examination has been carried out.

Order date labels from the LOLER range. In-stock catalogue stickers can dispatch the same day. Names and fleet marks are quoted from your artwork. Keep the date label where it can be read from the ground. Do not put a logo across it. When the report changes the date, change the label.
