Daily checks stickers on hire kit

A daily check sticker is a prompt for the person using the machine. It is not a thorough examination, and it is not a substitute for the written report.

Titan does not carry out thorough examinations. A label shows the dates and wording you supply. It does not replace the written report.

What HSE says about checks

HSE’s thorough examination page says that, as well as thorough examination, users may need simple pre-use checks, for example on lifting chains and slings, or checks on a daily basis, for example on lift trucks. It also says inspections between thorough examinations, often weekly but sometimes monthly or quarterly, may be needed so deterioration is found in time. Those inspections are done by suitably trained and competent people, who can be the operator or maintenance staff. The nature and frequency come from risk assessment, taking account of the manufacturer’s recommendations.

HSE’s inspection of work equipment page makes the same split. Quick checks before use, such as brakes and lights on mobile machinery, are one end. More extensive examinations are another. Records are not normally required for the simplest pre-use checks. A checklist can help, but HSE warns that asking for too much detail too often can turn the check into a tick-box exercise.

What to print

Print the checks your yard actually wants the operator to do, in the words your supervisor will stand behind. Do not copy a list from another fleet if it names parts this machine does not have. Leave a space if you want a signature or a date, and say so when you order. Fit the sticker where it can be read at the start of the shift, not under the seat or behind a panel.

A ticked daily sticker does not extend a thorough examination date and does not clear a defect that regulation 10 says must stop the machine. Catalogue check stickers that are in stock can dispatch the same day. Your own wording is quoted.
